ADVANTAGE AND PARADOX

I held an advantage.
It darkened my palm.
I sought to be rid of it,
I wished it gone.

I destroyed my advantage
With joy robust,
Clearing my hand
For the fair thrust

Then fair thrust I made
But my lance was caught
By a phone call at night
Not so fair as I thought

Neither I nor he
So fair as we ought
Neither I nor he
Quite as fair as I thought

Stuck now I am,
Cut short and welcomed
Paradox haunts
I am struck dumb

Deeply thoughtful now
Paradox looms
How to continue, to
Touch the one whom

Graces my intellect
And softens my knees
How to touch now,
Now that he agrees.
