Scheherazade had no idea how to proceed with the cabinet-building. She just sort of figured it out as she went.
No one would ever mistake the finished product for fine cabinetry, but then, that was not the point.
The point is that it works, and it preserves the original character of the room.

Replacing the old metal cupboard is Scheherazade's first home-built piece. It was designed to match existing built-in cabinets on the other side of the room.

Onto the free-standing cabinets she built wings to expand the available counter space and the provide more storage below.

Into the corner which was previously a large gaping open space she built another counter extension.

After the new countertops are built, they will be resurfaced using leftover ceramic tile from The Great Bathroom Project

You can kind of see the old fake pebbled vinyl flooring in this picture. It will go away soon.

Also note the persistent presence of the coffeemaker ~ a vital but often uncredited component of all Scheherazade's projects.
