...given to Scheherazade
 by a small child, was little more than a thin stick with roots at first.  She planted it in a stone circle created by another of her gardening friends.  She thought kindly of it, and it rapidly grew into a lovely young tree.

... is now well on its way to maturity and the preschooler who gave her the tree graduated from high school two years ago.

These things cause Scheherazade to ponder the passage of time.
